A certified Master Gardener, from March through November I can be found in my Connecticut garden battling the shade, the deer, and the slugs.
When I’m not writing or gardening, I try to find time for kayaking and hiking; at last count I’ve been to over 70 national parks, monuments, and recreation areas, but my favorites are Yosemite and Canyonlands. I’m also a diehard New York Knicks fan, even though the last few years haven’t been easy (I’m convinced it’s residual bad karma from trading Patrick Ewing) – just like Paula Holliday, the heroine of my first mystery, Pushing Up Daisies (St. Martin’s Minotaur February 2008).
I am a member of CMGA (Connecticut Master
Gardeners Association), Sisters In Crime and Mystery Writers of
America. I am a Board member of MWA/NY and Vice-President
of SINC New England.
Something else that’s near and dear to my heart is Habitat for Humanity. Habitat’s goal is to improve substandard housing for people all over the world. If you are not familiar with them, please visit the Habitat for Humanity
Web site. As of this writing, I have been on five Habitat builds, including China, Tanzania, two trips to Mexico, and two trips to post-Katrina New Orleans. I encourage everyone to support this amazing organization, both financially and through volunteering. Please check out my Habitat for Humanity pictures for a glimpse of the Habitat experience.
Inspired by my Habitat experience, I have undertaken another very exciting project, building a library in central Tanzania. Vist the Chalula Library Project page to learn more.
